Gamma Ray Interaction and "Neutron Capture Gamma Ray Technique for the Analysis of Cu-Ni Alloys"
The neutron capture gamma-ray technique was used for the analysis of Cu-Ni alloys, widely used in industry. The two elements, which are very close in atomic number, have widely separated characteristic capture gamma quanta. A sensitivity of 7x10 counts per unit thermal neutron flounce per 1% change in Ni/Cu ratio was obtained. Samples of any shape can be analyzed without a need for any special ...
متن کاملA Search for Hard-spectrum Gamma-ray Bursts Using Smm
We have searched over 9 years of data from the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) Gamma Ray Spectrometer for gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with abnormally hard spectra which may have been missed in previous searches in the 0.35{0.8 MeV energy band. For this purpose, we searched the higher 0.8{10 MeV band. We have found only two new GRBs in this search, compared with 177 GRBs found in the 0.35{0.8 MeV band. ...
متن کاملGamma Ray Spectrum Unfolding Using Derivative Kernels
The unfolding of a gamma ray spectrum experience many difficulties due to noise in the recorded data, that is based mainly on the change of photon energy due to scattering mechanisms (either in the detector or the medium), the accumulation of recorded counts in a fixed energy interval (the channel width of the detector) and finally the statistical fluctuation inside the detector. In order to de...
متن کاملCompton dragged gamma–ray bursts: the spectrum
We calculate the spectrum resulting from the interaction of a fireball with ambient soft photons. These photons are assumed to be produced by the walls of a funnel in a massive star. By parameterizing the radial dependence of the funnel temperature we calculate the deceleration of the fireball self–consistently, taking into account the absorption of high energy γ–rays due to interaction with th...
متن کاملFlat Spectrum Gamma Ray Burst Afterglows
Temporal behaviour of GRB afterglow light curve is derived for the case where the electron energy distribution is relatively hard, with the power-law index p lying between 1.0 and 2.0. It is shown that the expected behaviour will be the same as that for p > 2.0 if the upper cutoff in the electron energy distribution evolves in direct proportion to the bulk Lorentz factor of the blast wave.
